LEAGUE’S FIRST TELECONFERENCE TACKLES OCEAN CONTRACTS

Arlington, VA -- Reports in the trade press are predicting lower ocean freight rates in 2006. Despite steadily growing traffic volumes, increased capacity in the form of new and larger ships is expected to create downward pressures on pricing for at least the near term. What does this mean for those individuals expecting to negotiate and execute 2006 service contracts? The League’s first ever teleconference, “Ocean Freight Contracting in a Changing World: Negotiation and Management Trends” will cover what you need to know when considering an ocean freight service contract.

The live teleconference will be held Thursday, April 20, 2006 between 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. (EDT).

The program is composed of two panels. “Exploring Confidential Freight Service Contracts” and “NVOCC Service Agreements.” The first half covers ocean contracts. It is led by John Isbell, director corporate logistics, Nike, Inc. and Bob Sappio, senior vice president, American President Lines, Ltd. The second portion of the tele-seminar addresses NVOCC service arrangements now permitted by the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission’s new rules. This forum features Tom Craig, president of LTD Supply Chain and Thomas A. Keene, president of BDP Transport, LLC. Following the panels will be an extensive question and answer period.

Peter Gatti, executive vice president of the League said, “The advantage of the teleconference format is that it permits an unlimited number of individuals to participate using a single phone line for a single registration. This saves time as well as the expenses connected with travel, hotel and incidentals.”

The April teleconference is based on the successful 2005 educational seminar held last March on ocean contracting. As with last year’s program, the April 20th teleconference is hosted by the League, in cooperation with American Shipper magazine and The Cameron Group.
