NITL-TIA AGREE ON MODEL CONTRACT
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Industrial Transportation League (NITL) and the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) announce agreement on a model shipper-3PL contract.
The Shipper-3PL Model Contract has been approved by the Boards of Directors of each organization. The contract will be owned by the two associations, but will be available free of charge on the associations’ websites for use by shippers and 3PLs at www.nitl.org/ModelBrokerContractFinalv1.pdf
The Shipper-3PL Model Contract is designed to use as written or may be amended by the parties. The model contract comports with the recently adopted Shipper-Carrier Model Contract developed by the League and the American Trucking Associations (ATA). The Shipper-3PL Model Contract will also comport with the expected 3PL-Carrier Model Contract which is being developed by TIA and ATA.
“This effort points out the importance of collaboration in the transportation industry. It is a natural next step from our efforts with the ATA to develop an agreement that provides the backdrop for the commercial relationship between shippers and 3PLs,” said John Ficker, League President and Chief Executive Officer.
“The Shipper-3PL Model Contract is an outstanding step forward in adding efficiency to the marketplace. TIA and its members are very excited about the Shipper-3PL Model Contract. Working with the League on this issue shows the power of the two associations to improve the US logistics industry,” said Bob Voltmann, TIA President and Chief Executive Officer.
The shipper-3PL Model Contract was developed by committees of the two associations. John Gentle, Owens Corning chaired the League committee, and Chip Smith, Twin Modal chaired the TIA committee.
